Preparing for Your Sound Bath
The Experience
1
In a sound bath, you rest on a yoga mat or in a chair. The room fills with slow, resonant tones. Crystal bowls hum and glow. A gong rolls out low and wide. Chimes shimmer and fade. A drum keeps its steady, gentle pulse.
There is nothing to learn, and nothing to get right. The sound moves through the room. You soak up the healing frequencies providing a sense of peace and calm.
Sessions can last up to 60 minutes or more depending upon the event. The first moments are for getting comfortable, setting intentions, and starting the guided meditation. The middle is the sound journey itself. The last moments are for returning from the meditation slowly, stretching your toes and coming back to an awareness of the room and present moment in your own time.
On Arriving
2
We begin on time, and the doors close as the session starts, so the stillness is not broken. Please arrive about 15 minutes early. Find your place. Unpack your things and settle in.
What to Wear
3
Choose what feels softest against your skin: loose layers, easy clothing, warm socks. The body cools as it grows still, so you may wish to bring an extra layer.
What to Bring
4
We have a small number of mats and chairs, though not enough for everyone. To be sure you are comfortable, please bring the following:
• A yoga mat or other pad to lay on.
• A blanket
• A small pillow or neck roll
• A bottle of water. (Staying hydrated is important)
• An eye mask or light scarf (optional)
• A crystal or keepsake that holds an intention. (optional)
If lying on the floor is not comfortable for you, you are welcome to bring a compact chair and rest seated. Please verify ahead of time if wheelchairs can be used at the event space as this can vary..
No Experience Necessary
5
You do not need to know how to meditate. There is no correct way to listen.
Each person meets the sound differently. You may drift into sleep. You may see soft colors behind your eyelids. You may feel tears rise and pass. You may simply feel quiet and heavy, like a stone settling into still water.
Sensations may come: a warm, spreading calm, a gentle tingling, a floating or sinking, a deep and spacious stillness. Let each one arrive, and let each one go.
If you ever feel overwhelmed, quietly lift your hand. Someone will come to you.
Tension and Release
6
A sound bath moves like a tide, with tension and release.
Some passages are dense and layered, and may feel unsettled. This dissonance is placed with intention. It helps loosen what has been held too tightly. When it comes, lengthen your breath. Let the sound pass through you, as the breeze passes through tall grass.
Resolution occurs when the tones begin to gather and soften into harmony as a long exhale after holding your breath. The passage from one to the other is much of what makes the practice effective.
Your Well Being
7
Please let us know if any of the following apply to your circumstances:
• Sensitive hearing or tinnitus: Please tell us beforehand, and we will adjust the instruments and volume for your comfort.
• Pregnancy: Many expectant parents attend. Please check with your healthcare provider first.
• Existing health conditions: Sound therapy can complement your well-being, but it does not replace professional care. If you are managing a medical or mental health concern, please speak with your doctor before joining.
Gentle Courtesies
8
A few gentle courtesies help everyone rest undisturbed:
• Silence your phone before entering.
• Let the room remain quiet once the session begins.
• If you fall asleep, you are right where you need to be.
